  • "L&S Electric specializes in repairing electric motors and other rotating equipment; pumps, gear boxes, blowers, anything that rotates. The parts G&G makes for us include sleeving housings, shafts, gear box housing repair. We've been working with G&G Over 21 years. They've been great. G&G treats us very well. They have a lot of diversified equipment. They can do a lot of different things. No job is too small or too big. They're very responsive to orders that are dropped in on a moments notice. They're never too busy to come over and look at a job. G&G is one of the premier machine shops in the state of Wisconsin. There hasn't been anything we've asked them to do that they haven't been able to handle."

  • "I've been working with G&G for over ten years. My business supplies repair parts to the paper industry. G&G supplies a variety of parts; small to large, simple to complicated. G&G can hold the tight tolerances I need because they are always updating their equipment. They're excellent to work with. They do whatever they need to get the job done. G&G just doesn't goof up."

  • " I started at G&G running a Mazak vertical mill. I've run a few other mills and a boring bar. Then I had an opportunity to take on a new position doing planning / scheduling and purchasing. This was a new position for the company, so it's been exciting to put things in place. G&G is a very progressive company. We're always looking for cutting edge technology to stay ahead of the competition. It makes for an exciting environment. Before I came here I was downsized from a large corporation. I was looking for a smaller shop, closer to home. There were definitely disadvantages working in a larger shop. If you weren't in with the right crowd, it limited you. What's nice here are the flexible work hours; we've got a small company feel. I enjoy working for Mark and Randy; they’re very personable people, and family oriented. We work in a very fast paced environment, but they work very hard to be flexible when people need time off. When there have been emergencies, illnesses, and the like in one of our families, the company has come together, donating money and vacation so they could have the time to take off and be with their family in time of need."

  • "I was very glad to see G&G start to implement Lean. I like to have things neat and organized, and honestly, it was a challenge when I started working here because it was a very disorganized shop. We were very busy and there was just never time to clean things up. After Mark and Randy met with WMEP, they realized the potential they could squeeze out of this facility, and we really embraced 5S and the whole Lean Manufacturing program. People here embrace change. Change is never easy at first, but it's pretty amazing to see the results. It has affected people's jobs in a very positive way; 100% success."

  • "If you look at our shop, you can tell we are very Lean and our machinery is up to date. We're not spending time trying to fix machines, we're actually making parts. We put a lot of investment into our company; we don't just put it into our pockets. We stick it back into the business to make it stronger. A couple years ago, we thought we were completely out of space. WMEP contacted us and suggested we look at Lean. At the time I said, 'no we don't really need that, we're doing fine.' We were looking at building a new facility, and thought maybe these guys know a little bit about laying out a new shop. I knew we had some inefficiencies, but I didn't know what we could do about them. After looking at it, we saw we had a lot of things we could improve here before we had to build a new building. The first thing we started with was 5S. It was very painful to eliminate things we didn't need, because we thought we needed everything. We decided that we would just do it. When we started digging in, we found lots of opportunity and created space we didn't know was there. We ended up throwing out 300,000 pounds of stuff we didn’t need. It wasn't easy to start; nobody likes to change. Now, everybody has embraced change. We like to look at pictures of how things were; it amazing how much has changed. People are very proud of the changes.
The biggest success in Continuous Improvement has been bringing people together, to think alike; to embrace a common vision. We're not worrying about all the things going on around us, we're looking ahead. Lean has been hard to implement in a job shop environment, but we've adapted the Lean concepts to work here and it has definitely paid off on the bottom line. It was amazing the opportunities we found during our Value Stream Maps. People who come through our shop are amazed at what we've done with Lean. It gets them pretty excited about G&G. Hard work and sticking to the program is what's made G&G successful with Lean. It's been an investment in time and money, but the payback has been very quick. We had difficulty finding time when we were getting started, but it was so important to us we decided we need to find time for this. Lean has also helped us realize we needed more structure, so we've been putting together a support team, people to do quoting, scheduling, purchasing; some of the things I've been doing myself so I can be more effective. Now we've hired a Continuous Improvement Coordinator to take us even further."
